Support C.A.T.C.H. at their jumble sale this Saturday
The river people are holding a jumble sale this Saturday, 29th April, to raise money to fund the work they're doing to improve the River Cale. Their previous sales have been so successful that for the second year running it'll be held in Wincanton Memorial Hall, the only venue with enough room for all the stuff and things.
The Critical Global Citizen: an interactive talk at the Library
On Saturday 22nd April 2017 at Wincanton Library, Dr. Maureen Ellis will lead an interactive session to explore the individual’s role in the transformative power of language and communication to construct a global community.
Wincanton Carnival AGM tonight: new volunteers needed
The Wincanton Carnival AGM will be held tonight in the Sweetman Hall. The group is looking for more volunteers to help them continue staging this important annual town event. If you are interested in getting involved you are invited to attend tonight and meet the existing committee and volunteers.
Wincanton Christmas Lantern Parade
Wincanton's 2016 Christmas Lantern Parade will be on Saturday 19th November, despite this year's Extravaganza having been cancelled. The parade will coincide with the Town Council’s annual ceremony to switch on the town Christmas tree lights. There'll also be a lantern competition!
Wincanton Bonfire Night returns this Saturday!
It’s been many a year since the last organised town bonfire and fireworks display, but for 2016 it’s back. The youth teams who use the facilities at the Wincanton Sports Ground have organised a bonfire and fireworks event for the people of Wincanton.

Former town Mayor Colin Winder and Wincanton Town Council are now preparing for the annual Over-70’s Christmas Lunch. This year’s event takes place on Sunday 4th December in the Memorial Hall.

Road Closures for Wincanton Carnival this Friday
The 2016 Wincanton Carnival is less than a week away, and everything is gradually falling into place. For the safety of both the spectators and carnival entrants the Carnival committee has announced some typical road closures. Here's a full list, and a map of the procession for anyone who might need to plan ahead.
Wincanton Flower Show 2016
Wincanton & District Gardeners Association held its 61st Annual Flower Show on Saturday 3rd September in the Memorial Hall. There was a high standard of entries and keen competition across all classes, including flowers and vegetabes as well as home and handicrafts.

Peter Fitzgerald has just had published his book on Nathaniel Ireson the architect, master builder and potter of 18th century Wincanton and on Friday 23rd of September he will be giving a talk on Ireson to the Museum and History Society in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm.

On Saturday 17th September Wincanton’s newest festival has its inaugural outing. The Wincanton Town Festival (WTF!) takes place in and around Wincanton Town High Street, and will be a day of arts and entertainment for all the family.
WDGA Flower Show 2016 is on 3rd September
The Wincanton & District Gardeners Association Annual Flower Show will take place on Saturday 3rd September in the Memorial Hall, and will include entries widely varing from flowers, veg and fruit, to crafts, baking and even handwriting.

Prof. Will Vaughan will give a talk about the oldest known map of Castle Cary and Ansford, on Saturday 3rd September at 6.30pm in Caryford Hall. This unique map dates from 1682-4 and is nearly 4ft x 4ft. You could order your own print!

Poker Evening to Continue Fundraising Effort for Wincanton Carnival 2016
The carnival committee has been working hard to raise the estimated £8,000 needed to run this year’s event. With around £5,500 already raised, a poker evening follows last night's bingo to help raise the balance needed.
