Yarlington House and gardens

Yarlington Fayre will once again be hosted by The Count and Countess de Salis in the grounds of their elegant Georgian manor house – midway between Wincanton and Castle Cary - on Saturday 13th September from 11.00am.

It was at a Yarlington Fayre in the 19th century that a local farmer, William Atwell, sold his wife – and provided the inspiration for Thomas Hardy’s famous novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge.

Today the Fayre is in the stunning private gardens of Yarlington House, complete with its Italianate sunken garden and golden Laburnum walk. The Woodland Dell’s winding paths will provide quiet seclusion after the fun of the Fayre and home-made lunches and cream teas are served in the elegant stable yard.

The Fayre’s many attractions include live music, the dog show, archery and circus skills classes, and stalls for everything from cakes to antiques. For the more energetic, running in the now famous race, The Yarlington Mile around the stunning parkland is a highlight, with a junior and senior class amidst cheering crowds.

Entry of £2.50 (children and the family dog on a lead FREE) is in aid of Yarlington Church and Village Hall.
