Wincanton's Carnvial Committee brings you Winkfest: a day of family fun with live music, an outside bar, games, adventure ship, quads, Tug of War, stalls and much, much more. It makes its debut on bank holiday Monday 31st August, 11am till 6pm at Wincanton Sports Ground, Moor Lane, BA9 9RA.

Lots of small towns have big family fun days once a year, so why should Wincanton miss out? With a community of this size one is definitely needed. This will be our first year and all the proceeds will be going towards bringing back Wincanton Carnival, the first of many worthy causes. Next year it will be much bigger and the proceeds will go to various local charities and organisations.

We will have four great bands on the day, including The Makeshift People (who will also be playing in The Bear Inn, Wincanton from 9pm Monday evening) and Wait for Red Skies. The local WADS group will perform a few of their songs and a couple of dances, and we have an amazing opera singer who will be doing a selection of songs. There really will be something for everyone.

There'll be family games from 12 noon till 2pm. Traditional egg and spoon race, sack race, and lots of other fun things. Entry is £1 per person and you simply need to register on the day, this is open to kids as well as mums and dads, with prizes for the winners.

Our Tug of War is also £1 per person, with teams of 6. Whether you are a business, a local pub, or simply a group of men (or women) wanting to show off your skills, this is your chance to shine. Wincanton's official Tug of War trophy shield has been rediscovered in the Town Hall, last awarded and enscribed with the name of the winning team back in 1986, nearly 30 years ago! It's high time we revive the tradition. Registration can be done both in advance and on the day.

We also have an art competition. This is free to enter and the theme is ‘all things carnival’. The winner will get their artwork put onto a t-shirt and will get to take part in the carnival procession itself. The age bands for the competition are 4-7, 8-11, and 12-16.

We still have some available pitches for stalls. If you are a local crafts person, have stuff lying around you want to sell, or a business you want to promote you are more than welcome. It is £15 for a 10ft pitch, booking forms are available from the bear. All pitch fees need to be paid in advance and are non-refundable. Charities are not being charged for a stall, so if you are a local charity or someone raising money for a national charity, why not take this opportunity to fundraise?

There will also be hot food, tea, coffee and cake, soft play for the younger ones, face painting, and lots to keep the kids amused.

The day will be packed full of family fun from the minute it opens at 11am until the minute it closes at 6pm. It'll be a fabulous day, a great way to end the school holidays, so don’t forget to put it in your diary.

For anyone who wants to outwardly support Winkfest we have merchandise! T-shirts (male and female £10), car stickers (small £1 and large 50p) and badges ("Winkfest" and "Let's get Winkered!", £1), all available from The Bear Inn.

If you have any queries, want to register for the Tug of War or family games, or want to enquire about a stall pitch then please contact Carol Whitwell at , 07812 515 717 or Dani Wood at , 07455 895 951.
