Wincanton & Area Parkinson's Group Chairman Steve Beech Recognised

Sunday 10 July 2011, 12:57
By Steve Beech

Steve Beech being presented his certificate by Mr. Steve Ford, Chief Executive Officer, Parkinson's UKOn the 23rd June 2011, I was invited with my wife, together with 30 other recipients from the Parkinson's South West Region that covers Gloucestershire, Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, to the first ever Parkinson's Volunteer Recognition Day for Parkinson's South West Region. I was nominated as one of the recipients of an award, in recognition of the work we have put in, setting up and making a success of the Wincanton & Area Parkinson's Group in such a short time.

As many may well remember we only started the group in October last year. We now have 30 members.

Here (left) you have a photograph of Mr Steve Ford, Chief Executive Officer, Parkinson's UK, presenting me with the certificate. (I am the tall one!).

Written support for the award, from the committee of North Dorset Branch Committee, our Mother group, and Jane Henderson, Branch and Volunteer Officer for the South West Region:

Steve Beech - Wincanton Sub Group of North Dorset Branch

Steve has been indefatigable in the setting up of the branch sub-group in Wincanton. Early on we realised that it was a long way to travel from Wincanton to meetings and Steve has taken on the task of providing the support that is needed in this area. He arranges the venue for meetings, speakers and activities for the Group and is well respected by them. The Group has grown from strength to strength and continues to develop and provide support in an area where - until Steve took on the challenge - had no local Network.

Steve burst on to the scene and being well over six feet tall you can't miss him! He is fully deserving of recognition for the speedy and enthusiastic way he has gone about creating the new Wincanton sub-group of the North Dorset Branch. I'm sure it won't be long before it becomes a branch in its own right due to the drive of Steve and the support of his lovely wife June.
Congratulations and have a great day Steve.

The 19th October 2011 is our first birthday, and Steve Ford has agreed to come to our celebrations/meeting on that day. We will have more info about that at a later date.

With best regards to you all at Wincanton Window.
