Tuesday 22nd September heralds the start of the 2015/16 season of the Wincanton Film Society, with a screening of the “The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, the anticipated sequel to “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, made popular by its all-star cast of Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Diana Hardcastle, and Dev Patel. This time the cast is joined by American stars Richard Gere and David Strathairn, bringing a new edge to the film.

For the second film Sonny (Dev Patel) has two imminent challenges; his pending marriage to Sunaina, and the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is rapidly running out of space. The answer is simple. He needs to expand and buy a second hotel. Evelyn and Douglas (Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) are now part of Sonny’s team, and the dream of opening the second hotel takes them all on a hilarious adventure.

The new film season also introduces a new format. To date, the Society has booked films for the entire season so that they can produce a full printed programme for the year. The down side to this is that films later in the programme have often already been shown on TV.

To be able to show newer films later in the season the society will advertise three months ahead instead of all ten. Current and past members should now have received a three month programme and membership application document. The new season starts with the following films.

The Theory of Everything, and Interstellar, in one ingenius image

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Tuesday 22nd September
Interstellar Wednesday 14th October
The Theory of Everything Tuesday 17th November

All films will be screened in the normal Society venue, The Performance Enhancement Centre, King Arthur’s Community School, West Hill, Wincanton, BA9 9BX.

Doors open at 6.45pm with refreshments available till the films start at 7.30pm.

Guests can pay £5 per film at the door, or become a member for only £24 for all 10 films advertised in the rolling programme. Members attending all ten films would only have paid £2.40 per film.

If you haven’t received your programme and application form go to the Film Society website to download your copy.

Great first film of the 2015/6 season! Many thanks to Peter and the WFS Committee for enabling us to enjoy cinema on our doorstep in such a friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to the rest of the programme.
