Captain Phillips' ship, assaulted by Somali pirates

Having started Movies at The Bear with Gravity, Wincanton Film Society follows up with another current blockbuster – Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks, directed by Paul Greengrass. This one has only recently finished its run in the mainstream cinemas.

Captain Phillips is based on the true story of the first American ship to be hijacked in over 200 years. Captain Phillips is in charge of the Maersk Alabama when the vessel is attacked by Somali pirates. This tense story translates well into a great film.

At the recent 2014 BAFTA Awards Tom Hanks was nominated for 'Best Leading Actor', and his Somali pirate counterpart, Barkhad Abdi won 'Best Supporting Actor', his film debut.

WFS will be screening Captain Phillips on Monday 10th March in the Sweetman Hall at The Bear Inn, Market Place, Wincanton BA9 9LP.

Doors open at 6.45pm, film starts at 7.30pm.
Price: £5.00 on the door.

That gives you enough time to grab your drinks and snacks at the bar and bag your seat for the start of the film. Movies at The Bear are based in the Sweetman Hall, a convenient town centre venue with a great atmosphere.

This venture by WFS is set up to bring current blockbuster films to Wincanton. There's no printed programme for this venue so films are selected as they finish the main circuit and screened before they get bandied around the myriad TV channels eager to swallow them up.
