Silver Magpie - Beautiful Children's Gifts to Treasure

A local housewife and former director of Tiffany's recently launched a service providing silver gifts for children, helping godparents and all those with children in their lives to create an heirloom collection to last a lifetime.

Francesca Pratt says she founded Silver Magpie to source beautiful pieces from family-run British silversmiths, that could be reasonably priced while retaining top quality design and finish. As well as sourcing British silver, Francesca wanted to use local suppliers and was thrilled to find the support she needed within a few miles of her base near Gillingham.

"My eight years at Tiffany's taught me a great deal about quality products and presentation and I have hugely enjoyed bringing this experience to Silver Magpie," she says.

The 10 collections in the range are made up of around 200 pieces - described by Francesca as "traditional, with a twist" - starting at £18, with over a third costing less than £50.

The range includes the first ever January-to-December cufflink produced for boys as well as other boy-focused gifts. For girls, there are pearls and charm bracelets and their own Dressing Table Collection. To appeal to anyone, other gifts are shown in The Desk Set, Tableware, Christmas or Baby Collections with a remarkable VI Piece range.

Uniquely, there is packaging for a boy - a black lid with a white base and turquoise tissue paper - or a girl - a white lid with a black base and orange tissue paper - each box accompanied by a range of different rubber ducks.

"I chose the ducks for younger children, who might take a few years to appreciate silver gifts, so they can have immediate enjoyment from their presents", says Francesca.

Silver Magpie operates a gift registry service, offering suggestions for gifts, as well as emailed reminders of forthcoming birthdays. It may even provide inspiration for presents that children could give to their parents:
