Red Cross in Wincanton

Wincanton Red Cross. The Group and its Services.

THE LOCAL GROUP
Here in Wincanton we have a small group of hard working First Aid and Ambulance members who are regularly to be found in yellow jackets  - probably in fields -  watching horses, motorbikes, footballers, runners or people having fun at garden fetes and carnivals etc. The list is endless! We are there to provide immediate help to anyone injured or taken ill and we take appropriate action according to our assessment of the problem.

OTHER SERVICES OFFERED
Our Medical Equipment Service depot is situated at the Wincanton Health Centre and can supply many things, from chair-raisers and commodes to wheelchairs, either on temporary loan or as a new or second-hand item for sale. Mr Donald Mathewson runs this service, his contact details are below.

We can transport patients, by ambulance, who are moving to nursing homes or to be near relatives. Last year we took a patient all the way to Scotland. This can save a great deal of worry and heart-ache for relatives.

We work within schools and with a variety of vulnerable groups.

TRAINING
Courses are run on a regular basis as all our staff are fully trained and thls training is up-dated regularly.

FUND RAISERS
We have a small group of volunteers who organise fund-raising events because - like all charities - The Red Cross has to have funds. We need money for training, equipment, ambulances, fire and emergency support, vehicles and our work within schools and vulnerable groups. Donations can, of course, be given direct to head Office in the form of direct debit.  For this information do contact our web site (above),   £2 a month for a year cold buy water purification tablets for 250 people a day!
