On the other hand, of course, we must say that the interpretations of the Tubingen school and the Milan school go in an entirely different direction — especially Joachim Kramer. In both the doctrine of the right measure in the Philebus and the doctrine of right mean in the Politics, he finds a principle for recognizing not just being but value as well. Then, once again, through an interpretation of Plato's unwritten doctrine, he finds it possible to determine the types from the perspective of the good.

What I want to show is that, whether we can answer it or not, we should always begin from the idea of posing the question of the agathon, the good. The question is always whether it's simply a matter of what's better or whether it is really a matter of what lies beyond every particular purpose. : Here, again, we come upon the old question of how to relate the good to the better and vice versa. This, in my opinion, would be the reason why philosophy would still have something to do with politics; and yet here, once again, we hit upon the greatest difficulty: Who can know what the good is in itself?
