The site, East of the new Wincanton Health Centre, for a proposed new care home

Over the last few months local District Councillor Nick Colbert has been in serious discussions with Waypoints Dementia Care about the possibility of opening a care home here in Wincanton.

Discussions have proved fruitful, with Waypoints’ agents Carless-Adams arranging a public exhibition ahead of any subsequent planning application.

Date: Friday 19th December
Venue: David Sharp Centre, Cemetery Lane, Wincanton
Time: 5.00pm – 7.30pm

Agents: Carless Adams Partnership – Contact Melissa Magee – 01628 665131

This project represents a major investment in Wincanton of around £4-5million and when completed will generate in the region of 80 jobs.

The new home will be built on the edge of the Wincanton Business Park with easy access to Cale Park, offering an attractive parkland recreational area for both patients and visitors. With existing homes in Verwood, Plymouth and Upton, Waypoints are serious providers of dementia care, and this is clearly set out in the ten-point concept displayed on their website.

Unfortunately the letter sent out to invite all interested parties to the exhibition had the wrong address on it, pointing visitors to Wincanton Community Church in South Street. So please help by telling friends and family that this event is in the David Sharp Centre. Please do visit this exhibition and see what Waypoints Dementia Care has to offer the people of this community, and beyond.

This can only be good news for our town. It will be a positive step towards redressing the current imbalance between houses and employment aswell as bringing a valuable asset to our community. I feel confident that, should this project reach Planning stage, it will have the support of the majority of the town.

Well done, Nick, for getting it this far.
