Success for Myakka at Somerset Business Awards

Fair trade furniture retailer, Myakka has won the Business of the Year Award (with 5-50 employees) and came second in the Service Excellence Award at the Somerset Business Awards 2010. The sixth annual awards were organised by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses with the aim of celebrating the success of businesses within Somerset and raising their regional and national profile.

This was the first year that Myakka had taken part in the awards and were short listed in both categories that they entered. Ten of the Myakka team travelled to Somerset County Cricket ground on Friday evening to attend the lavish awards ceremony where the results were announced.

Accepting the awardSpecialising in fair trade furniture and home accessories, Myakka has been based in Wincanton, Somerset since it was establish 11 years ago by founders Georgie Hopkins and Simon Whitehead. "Winning the Business of the Year Award is a huge achievement for Myakka especially given the calibre of the competition," commented Georgie, "This is great recognition for the whole team and acknowledges the hard work that is put in by everyone at Myakka on a daily basis. We are really delighted!"

Myakka have recently released their latest Autumn catalogue detailing over 15 new pieces of exclusively designed, hand crafted Indian furniture to complement their existing ranges.
