A group of young people with a vision to transform a play area in Milborne Port has received a £10,000 boost from South Somerset District Council. At the February meeting of the Area East Committee, Councillors voted unanimously to support the project, which aims to transform the Gainsborough area into a community space for all ages to enjoy. Plans for the space include new play equipment, a football wall, a new entrance and path and a sensory garden with a picnic area.

£12500 had already been committed by SSDC towards new equipment; however, at a recent site meeting, concerns were raised about the safety of the existing entrance to the site and it was agreed that this needed to be dealt with before new equipment could be installed.

SK8PIPEDREAM is a group of young people from Milborne Port who, with support from parents and the local PCSO, Mandy Forsey, have already improved facilities for young people in the area by raising funds for the play area and skate park. The ward member, Cllr Lucy Wallace said "The group has already achieved such a lot, raising over £10,000 through local fundraising for this phase of the scheme. This latest award is a direct result of their hard work and determination."

The group is awaiting the outcome of a bid to the Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and is hoping to get started on the project in the spring.
