Volunteers picking litter on the banks of the River Cale, Wincanton

Community action group C.A.T.C.H. will be carrying out their next litter pick along the River Cale on Sunday 1st March 2015. As always, the group would like to invite any willing volunteers to join them on the day from 9.00am.

The litter pick will commence from Wincanton Recreation Ground car park and will cover the area along the river from the weir at Shatterwell down to Hawker’s Bridge by the skate park. As a community group everyone is encouraged to come along. There are no expectations of work load for individuals and even if you just want to join the group to walk the route then you will be more than welcome.

The morning commences with a full health and safety briefing and the issuing of the required personal protective equipment. Following this, the group will proceed along the route, bagging up all rubbish found along the banks. It must be stressed that all children must be accompanied by an adult and that suitable clothing be worn, particularly if it is cold or raining.

In the event that there is a lot of rain and the river level rises then it may be necessary to carry out a litter pick away from the water. Litter grabbers will also be supplied as the group totally discourage the handling of any rubbish.

The group aim to finish by 12 noon and at the end of each pick it has now become tradition to enjoy cake and a drink. So why not come along and enjoy good company and help with such a worthwhile activity for the benefit of the town?

If you're unable to help on this particular occasion, watch out for announcements of future community events. If you'd like to support the group in other ways please check out the C.A.T.C.H. jumble sale this Sunday, 8th February!

If you require any further information please contact C.A.T.C.H. on 07597 127187. To learn more about the work of the group visit www.rivercale.org or follow them on Facebook.
