Whilst most students were taking it easy over the summer, one student at Bruton School for Girls was busy ‘treading the boards’ in London.

Ciara Chapman, aged 18 from Bruton, attended the National Youth Theatre’s prestigious summer workshop in London. She was awarded a place on its summer acting course after competing against almost 5,000 students from across the country.

Not only was Ciara celebrating winning the coveted summer workshop place, but she also gained a fantastic set of A Level results with an A* in English Literature, A in History and A in Drama and Theatre Studies and leaves BSG to read History at the University of Edinburgh. She said:

“I came to Bruton School for Girls knowing that drama was something I wanted to pursue. The mix of facilities and creative environment meant that I had the chance to try my hand at technical theatre, directing and script-writing which I believe certainly prepared me for the National Youth Theatre course.

“The National Youth Theatre was an amazing experience - although I can still feel the effects of nine hours of physical theatre each day! I made lifelong friends and had the time of my life!”

Nicola Botterill, Headmistress at Bruton School for Girls said:

“Ciara is a fantastic example to our pupils of how to combine academic and creative subjects. We are incredibly proud of all she achieved at BSG and wish her well as she begins her studies at Edinburgh.”

Bruton School for Girls is thoroughly committed to The Arts, and is a centre for excellence in Drama. To find out more or apply for its Drama Scholarships at 13+ and at Sixth Form, contact the school on or telephone 01749 814400.
